Dr. Lopes received his DDS degree from São Paulo City University in 1989. After specializing in Periodontics in 1992, he became an assistant professor in the Periodontics Department at Camilo Castelo Branco University, in São Paulo – Brazil, where he taught for 10 years, before he transitioned into private practice.
He also became the head of the “Periodontal Plastic Surgery” and “Introduction to Microsurgery” courses at the São Paulo Dental Association (APCD), position held until 2015.
In 2014, Dr. Lopes specialized in Implantology at the Brazilian Dental Association (ABO).
In 2017, he qualified in Reconstructive Vascular Microsurgery at the Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology at São Paulo University.
Dr. Lopes holds a private practice in Sao Paulo, Brazil, focused on periodontics, implant surgery, and periodontal and peri-implant plastic microsurgery in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Since 2015, he has been teaching together with Dr. Glecio Vaz de Campos on the topic of microsurgery in periodontics.
He is the co-author of the book “Periodontal and Peri-implant Plastic Microsurgery – Minimally Invasive Techniques with Maximum Precision” published in Portuguese, English, Spanish and Japanese by Quintessence Publishing.

This course brings the surgical technical precision of vascular surgery as applied to soft tissue grafting. It can be used for treatment of any soft tissue deficiency around teeth or implants, regardless of the phenotype or amount of keratinized tissues. As a singular stand alone technique to solve all these complex problems, it is worth learning for any surgeon that wants more predictable outcomes.
This was a wonderful course which highlighted new techniques, theory behind the procedures and gave multiple clinical cases. The lab practice helped to solidify skills. The faculty was knowledgeable, helpful and essential to the experience.
I just really enjoy the quality of the instructors and facilities. Learning in a small group setting with like-minded colleagues makes the length of the course and the distance travelled worthwhile.
My attendance at IDEA has been life altering. The courses I have taken have advanced my practice exponentially over the years. I highly recommend IDEA to anyone interested in advancing their surgical and implant skills!
